Hibernate Windows 7 using a keyboard shortcut

If you are the kind of person who likes to open a lot of browser tabs, documents, and apps hibernating your Windows 7 is really a must instead of shutting it down and reopening all these stuff. Here is a trick how you can easily assign a keyboard shortcut to hibernate your desktop pc.

Assigning keyboard shortcut to hibernate function in Windows 7:

Step 1: Right-click on the Windows 7 desktop, select New and then Shortcut.

Step 2: In the dialog box, enter shutdown /h and click Next button.

Step 3: Enter a name for the shortcut (ex: hibernate hotkey) and click on the Finish button to see a new shortcut on the desktop.

Step 4: Right-click on the shortcut icon and select Properties.

Step 5: Under Shortcut tab, select Shortcut key field, press a combination of keys  and click Apply button to assign a keyboard shortcut.

Basically what we did here is that we created a desktop shortcut that will trigger the hibernate function. As the title suggest, we are creating a command using keyboard shortcut so you won’t need to double click the shortcut created in the destop. Lastly, if you don’t like to see the shortcut icon on the desktop, right-click on the shortcut and select Properties. Under General tab, check the box named Hidden to make the icon disappear from desktop.
